TotalEnergies Marketing Tanzania donate helmets to motorbike riders (Dodoma)
On 21st and 22nd May 2024, TotalEnergies Marketing Tanzania Limited launched the Helmet4Life initiative in partnership with TotalEnergies foundation where 936 helmets were distributed to motorcycle riders in Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo.
A mass launch event was organized on the 21st of May at Biafra Open ground in Dar es Salaam and motorcyclists who park near TotalEnergies Service Stations in the region participated. The event was officiated by the National Road Safety Traffic Police Commander, DCP Ramadhani Ng’anzi; Kinondoni Regional Traffic Police, TotalEnergies Marketing Tanzania Limited Managing Director, Mamadou Ngom; TotalEnergies SE Road Safety Project Manager, Michele Khalife; TotalEnergies Commercial and CSR Communications Manager, Lilia Jelassi; Police inspectors and Police Officers of various ranks of road safety education from the headquarters of the road safety force and TotalEnergies Marketing Tanzania Limited management and employees.
More than 500 motorcyclists were recruited and registered through their communities leaders and the traffic police who identified riders with valid licenses, which was the qualifying criteria for the motorcyclist to be involved. Prior to providing helmets to the motorcycle riders, the traffic police provided road safety education and highlighted the traffic rules and regulations to the motorcyclists while the affiliate’s Network Trainer, Mr. Josephat Msafiri provided helmet for life training highlighting on its four major principles of: - Avoiding risky situations; Protecting oneself and others; Respecting the road rules and Maintenance of the motorcycles.
Speaking during the launch event, TotalEnergies Marketing Tanzania Managing Director, Mamadou Ngom addressed that “Road safety is one of our company’s key Corporate Social Responsibility areas where we support the government of the United Republic of Tanzania to control road accidents and their effects by provision of road safety education, reflectors and helmets to the key population. Helmet for Life project is one of the projects that aims to educate, protect and avoid the effects of accidents involving motorcyclists by providing more than 2000 helmets to riders in Tanzania who park near TotalEnergies service stations across the country.”
The guest of honor, National Road Safety Traffic Police Commander, DCP Ramadhani Ng’anzi upheld TotalEnergies Marketing Tanzania Limited and TotalEnergies Foundation for prioritizing road safety as part of the company’s CSR initiatives; “On behalf of the government, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate TotalEnergies Marketing Tanzania together with TotalEnergies Foundation for the efforts they continue to make in the country to increase road safety education with this new project of Helmet for Life. The Police Force road safety team is with you on this matter and in providing road safety education to motorbike riders along with the provision of helmets for their safety and that of their passengers.”
Similarly, on 22nd May 2024 activations were conducted in two service stations located in the Coastal Region, Bagamoyo where over 400 motorcycle riders participated at TotalEnergies Mapinga and TotalEnergies Ukuni service stations. More than 400 helmets were provided to the motorcyclists with valid licenses as identified by the traffic police force that attended.
